I don’t know about you but I sure love the holidays. My daughter is nearly four now and this is the first year she is really excited about Christmas as more than a time when everyone else seems excited. She has been running around the house for several weeks now yelling Ho, Ho, Ho, in the deepest voice she can manage. Wrapping up all of her toys in her blankets to give as a gift to me has become a favorite pastime this week.

I also love all of the Christmas movies. My favorite is still White Christmas. The combination of Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye was absolutely perfect. It was certainly made in a different time. It was a time when people were much more connected to one another, more willing to assist each other in times of trouble. A few years back at the end of 2007 when the economy was headed into the toilet in a big hurry, I was running a business in the mall with my wife. Things just kept getting worse all year long , but we hung in there hoping that things would turn around and we could keep all the people we had working for us. Everyone at the mall kept telling us to wait till Christmas, you will make so much money then!

Christmas came and we went, very much in debt back to the real world. At this point I was trying to make a living and working in a job with an ever shrinking paycheck. I have to tell you it sucked. I really did stop living. I did this only inside but it shows up in your everyday life. You are simply existing at this point if you do that. I spend time with my wife and at the time infant daughter, but could not fully enjoy them as I was not engaged in my life. I was simply existing, going through the motions.

I had done this once before in the past, at that time I was much less caring of being alive. It happened many years ago when my younger sister was killed by someone breaking into the house. In fact at that point pretty much my entire family went into the withdraw from life mode. We went through the motions of living without getting any joy from life.

I have only just this past week realized what Happened to me, I was a zombie. Fit for a part in “The Walking Dead” or any similar show. I did not connect with my family. I did not go to the gym any longer, I no longer went on long bike rides. All of these are things I really enjoy.

I was trying to pay off my debts by living within my earnings, but my earnings have been shrinking for 5 years straight due to a wage freeze. That alone would have hurt but we also had to pay more for our benefits every year. That has led me to earning around $500 less per month in take home pay than I did at the start of the wage freeze. Plus I don’t need to tell you how much prices have risen in the past 5 years.

I finally realized that the only way out of my troubles is to earn more money! I am sure that many of you realize the same thing yourself.

But the main thing I wish to get across here is that you really need to get out and get reconnected with life again if you find yourself in this place. Talk to others, find a coach or mentor, tell your family how much they mean to you. There are a lot of resources out there to help you get out of your slump. Find one, use it and get your life back on track! You owe it to yourself and your family. I want you to have the best possible life you can get for yourself.

When you are new to internet marketing like I am, then you probably have no idea about the power of backlinks to your site. A backlink is a link back to your website from another website. The search engines consider each link back to your website from a different website to be a small vote for the popularity and authority of your site. When looking for traffic to your website, traffic from the search engines is generally free. There are also paid methods of getting traffic such as PPC  (Pay Per Click), there are also other methods of paying for traffic. When you get the traffic coming to your site for free and they also make a purchase of something from your site, all of your earnings are yours! No need to worry if your earnings will cover the cost of your advertising. That is why I love building a ton of backlinks to all of my sites and you should as well.

For many, high search engine rankings a site seem to come from some sort of black magic. There are also many people that look to use search engine optimization also known as SEO. These people are always working hard in order to stay one step ahead of changes that are made by the search engines such as the latest change made by Google a few months back. Since changes come fast and hard, and because every search engine uses a system different from the competition SEO can be a real challenge to implement and use to keep your website stuck to the top of the search engines.

That is the reason that I like to use backlinks. They are always working for you no matter what happens with your SEO. Once you get the hang of it you can create backlinks at will with almost no cost. Plus if you choose your sites carefully, your links should last for a long time and for the time being show little chance of actually getting your site placed into the Google sand box. The exception is getting lots of low quality backlinks in a very short time period. It does not look natural for a brand new site to have 2000 links overnite.

So if you are a rookie like me in the Internet Marketing Game you may find yourself wondering at this point exactly what is a backlink? Normally a backlink to your site is simply a link coming to your site from another site. One way links are the best in the eyes of the search engines as that way it does not seem a tit for tat kind of thing.

How can you go about getting backlinks to your site?

One of my favorites is to write and submit articles to the bigger article directories. One of the biggest and most popular is EzineArticles.com. Another favorite of mine is infobarrel.com. One of the best things about infobarrel is that they will share the revenue they earn from your articles with you or let you donate those earnings to charity. So how exactly do you get your backlink? You get to write a a short resource box and in that you can include a link back to your site for a free backlink.

You can also look for directories of websites similar to yours. You should take a few minutes to submit your site to all of these directories for a load of free backlinks to your site.

You should definitely find a few active forums that are in your niche. When you post in the forum regularly, not only can you make a signature box that shows in the bottom of each post you write resulting in a link, you may also develop a great following among the forum users that like what you have to say.

If you can find some relevant blogs to post a great comment on that will also give you some great backlinks; now with blog comments you need to do more than just say something stupid like: “Wow, great entry, I have been looking for something like this!” Worthless comments will get deleted and not help you. Read the blog post and leave some relevant comments. Add your voice to the conversation. Make it meaningful.

Once you get the hang of all this it is pretty simple to get yourself a load of backlinks if you are willing to put in a little bit of work. If you get tired of doing the backlinking work yourself, then you can pretty easily outsource the work to someone and have your links built for you. Choose your help carefully though as you want to be certain that they will do the job well and not get your site dropped into the google sandbox doing things unethically.

So if you want lots of free search engine traffic to your websites, go get yourself some good backlinks.

If you have started trying to earn a few extra dollars from building any form of niche marketing online, the you know how important it is to have some sort of daily task list to keep you on track. I have been using something that I feel could help you as well. It is a process that is strangely named after a tomato. Not certain, why but it is. You can visit the Pomodoro website and download the book for free. I will give you the gist of what they have to say right here.

To begin, you need to take a piece of paper and make a list of all that you need to do for a single project. If you have a master list of all the projects that you would like to do that is also great, for this choose one of those projects. Your list might look like this;

1. Research for a new niche Amazon buy.com etc.

2. Research Keywords

3. Research Exact Match Domains

4. Research Main KW Content

5. Write Content for Primary KW

6. Install WordPress

7. Install Theme and plugins

8. Upload content

9. Place Adsense ads

However you set your tasks up you need to list them out on a sheet of paper. If you go to the Pomodoro site they even lined paper that you can print out. You will also find a manual on the page that will give you a history and further techniques that you can use.

Now that you have all of your tasks listed in order it’s time to begin your work. The main thing you will need is a timer of some sort. I am using a simple kitchen timer for my work. The goal of this method is to work for 25 minutes straight then to take a 5 minute break that is different from what you were doing. I like to get a glass of water and take a short walk during my breaks.

When I first started out with the Pomodoro method I had trouble to even make five minutes of work uninterrupted. If you keep at it it will get simpler as you go on. I am now up to around 20 minutes of work without interruption. If you keep at it this method can work for you also. You will find your internet Attention Disorder behind you for a good 20 minutes, and that is time to get some real work done. Work through 4 of those in a row and you have accomplished nearly 2 solid hours of work toward your dream.

 

 

No matter where you live today, I would like to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. I know that many people that come by this site are from other places than the US, but you should all enjoy your day as well. WE are nearing the holiday time of year and it will often make those of you that have lost someone sad. I understand those feelings having lost a sister several years ago.I miss her a lot.

The best that you can do is to honor the memory of those who have passed by living the best life and being the best person you possibly can be. Go out daily and make the world a better place. leave your couch, shut off the TV and really love, check out the world around you and do good things!

Debt = Stress and Depression

If you have a lot of debt hanging over your head you probably feel like hiding from the world, head buried on your hands, phone off the hook and the TV on to drown out your sorrows and make you forget about the world. I know that feeling all too well. Since we lost our business I have been struggling to keep a place to live, pay off our past debts, and keep enough food on the table to keep a growing little girl growing.

It has been a real challenge to try and keep paying off old debts while my employer has kept cutting our pay every year. I have been looking to find new work and seem only to find part time or short term jobs that are not really along the lines I am looking for.

Is There any Escape from the Depression?

Well it is the little things that can really help you to feel better. First thing is to turn off that TV or get rid of it completely. Several different studies have shown that Television is linked to depression. Next, if you are like me you are nearly always working or looking for some type of a better job or opportunity to improve your situation. Remember, your family is still important. If you can stay connected to your family you will get through everything much happier. If the TV is off you can truly attempt to keep your focus on the little time that you have together. Though you may not have any money to do things that you would like to do for your family, you can still have a great time together doing lots of free things around your town. We like to walk to a local park to play on the swings and slides. The time walking together gives the 3 of us time to talk and reconnect with each other, and the exercise will also help to relive the stress and depression. Also you need to do the best you can to eat as well as your budget will allow. I know how hard it can be to come home exhausted and need to cook a meal, however, a healthy diet will also help you to kick depression. You will also save some money over eating fast foods while keeping yourself looking better.

Easing the Stress and Depression

To help you begin to end the stress, you really need to sit down as a family and have a really long talk. I did not do that with my wife until much to late. It nearly cost me my family and that would have really killed me. If you can sit down as a family, talk about your situation and what you think can be done, how you want to handle this issue. There is a lot of options for taking care of your debt without filing for bankruptcy if you come up with a plan early. The problem is that most of the time there is no one for you to turn to and ask the questions that could really help your life right now. Instead of waiting develop a plan as a family and look for a way to come out of your debt as a stronger family than ever before.

This is a roadside view of the crash that has effectively ended any hopes that Lance Armstrong had for an eighth Tour De France victory.

If you have ever watched a race like the Tour de France you will notice that it is impossible to win the race without a team pulling for you.

I am a big fan of the tour and love to watch the race for the three solid weeks that it lasts. The race is seldom won or lost in a single day much like life. If you are having a bad day in your business life, just keep pushing through and do the best you can for the day. The next day you pick up and start over working at full speed to get put in your best day yet. There will also be times where you crash out and find the project or the business you had in mind is not going to work for you. The same thing will happen to people that crash in the Tour, there are broken bones and injuries that knock people out of the tour for the year. That has happened a lot in the tour so far this year. at the start of day six there were only 12 of the 22 teams still complete.

In my opinion if you really want to get your business moving forward you need a team a as well as a coach or mentor and some support staff. I finally have gotten around to getting a coach for myself in building web sites. I feel that we need to have different coaches and mentors depending on what point we are in our business or our lives. after you get to a point where a coach or mentor is no longer of any help to you then you need to get into a mastermind group. This is a group of people that you can bounce ideas off of to help get your plans fleshed out.

As for a team, when you first start in the web building business you might just need someone to make some graphics for you, maybe put together some ebook covers for your reports, or just make a couple of nice headers for your sites. Later you might hire some people to write some articles for your site, then later still to post them after they are written. Someday you may even hire a whole team to build out sites, answer the phones and take your ideas and turn them into great products to sell!

As for a support crew, begin with your family. They should be your strongest supporters. To get them behind you will require that you explain to them well what your plans are and what you will need in the way of time and assistance from them. Next will come your friends and those that you hang out with, if you can’t get some positive support from them you may just need to change your group of friends. You will find that few will want you to be successful. Most people would far rather have you wallow around poor and pitiful with them. They will talk about how nice it will be when they win the lottery, but will do nothing to actually get out and change the life that they have. I think that most of us are not afraid to fail but are instead afraid to succeed. WE are accustomed to feeling like a failure, but would be very uncomfortable feeling things going the way we always wanted them to go.

So get out there and make things go the way you dream about! Win the tour with your team around you!!

For Several years now I have looked at all of those beautiful compost bins with wishful lust! So in my new spirit of Doing things without incurring any more debt I decided to build my own compost bin! I started by finding myself a nice 55 gallon barrel. At one time the large plastic barrels of this type were pretty easy to get by going to a place like a soft drink bottling plant or local car wash. Since many people are using them for bio diesel fuel manufacture now they are more difficult to find for free. I found several for less then 30 dollars on Craigslist though. So ask around, find a barrel that is the right size for you. You may not need one that is quite this large.

After procuring My barrel, I dug two holes for my posts that I planned to use in supporting the barrel. I made the posts tall enough that I can park my wheel barrow underneath to make transporting my compost a simple matter. In my ground it is so hard all year long there is no need for concrete, but use your own judgment for your site. If you have any doubts at all I would go ahead and be safe with using the concrete to secure your posts remain upright.

Now that my posts are securelyin the ground I started work on my 55 gallon drum.  To start I cut an entry for placing my waste inside of the barrel. I made it pretty good size but I did not want to weaken the barrel.

Since I want my barrel to be a tumbling type of composter, I am going to place it upright on my posts in the ground and I do not want all of the weight resting on the 1″ piece of plastic pipe through the barrel so I cut two plywood ends out and bolted them onto each end of my barrel. With these plywood circles bolted onto the end I will now have 5 points to support the compost bin which should keep it from tearing the plastic barrel.
After these ends are tightly bolted on I mounted the opening back onto the barrel with hinges and a hasp to keep it closed.

Now your barrel is nearly ready to mount. Make sure that your center post that is going to support your barrel is centered and place onto your posts. I had planned to cut a notch into the top of my post but had loaned out my saw so instead I cut my post with a dip in the center and just used a few nails to hold the PVC pipe in the center.

That is it, Your new compost bin is ready to begin accepting your refuse and returning awesome goods for your garden! Cost for the whole project was about $25 and my time. I had many of the things I needed and I found someone that was wiling to give me a barrel. I did buy the hinges, nuts and bolts for use on the ends and mountings.  My next project is to build a chicken coop in the backyard so that we can look forward to some fresh eggs by the end of the summer!
